TAA040: Who You WERE vs. Who You ARE – How our thinking changes as we age

Summary:

Lee is back, this time to explore how our thoughts evolve with us. More specifically, this episode discusses the human value system and how it typically changes with the years. Human values are the virtues that guide us to take into account the human element when we interact with other human beings. They determine how we feel and treat others on a small and large scale. These values help us to determine what is right or wrong in our lives. Lee has observed that our values (e.g. Achievement, Hedonism, Security, Conformity, Tradition, Power, etc.) changes as we age. He offers 4 introspective questions (See below in the timestamps section) whose answers reveal who you were, as well as whom you have become in relation to your values. He also shares his own answers to these questions to show the changes that have occurred in his thinking over the past 25 years. Listen and join Lee in a powerful tool to help you forgive your past and chart a brighter future.

“But most of us, not all, leave our youthful thinking behind in the same way and for the same reason, we leave speedos and bikinis behind. They just don’t fit our values anymore.” Lee Mowatt

IGA037: Aging Differences: Men vs. Women: Who Wins??

Summary:

This episode digs into many topics (tangents??) as Lee takes a journey into exploring the different ways men and women age. He goes into detail about why these gender differences may exist and/or what may be causing them. Lee builds a solid case for his ending conclusion that women have to bare a greater burden in how our culture has depicted aging. Along the way to these conclusions, Lee talks about how “Placebos” have been used to influence our thinking, and the trickery of statistics, both of which provide intriguing side notes that contribute to a deeper understanding. This is definitely one for those who may be more intellectually inclined. But even if you find this level of detail boring, there are enough chuckles here to make it worth your while.

“Women have stronger societal pressures to resist and hide the signs of their aging than men do. So it is no wonder men seem to have an easier time dealing with the signs of aging than women.” Lee Mowatt

IGA036: Reverse Aging And Disease with Human Celluar Regeneration??

Summary:

Many species possess an ability to regenerate damaged tissues to regrow new limb or organs through the mechanism of cellular regeneration. Research is indicating that humans have similar regenerative capabilities, but only at specific times during embryonic development. If this capability could be extended or ignited throughout our lifespan, it would be a major blow to the rise of chronic degenerative conditions currently on the rise. Cancer, Arthritis, Diabetes, kidney diseases, degenerative brain disorders, plus more could be effectively addressed with such medical technology. How real are these possibilities? How soon could we see drugs and other therapeutics become available to combat our chronic conditions?

Lee explores these possibilities with Ira S. Pastor, the CEO of a Bioquark, a company pushing the envelope in this area. Ira educates Lee (and you, the listener) on many of the concepts involved in bringing these solutions to market, and what the present status is on such developments. This is an intriguing conversation, teaching us much, and providing a useful look into a hopeful future.

IGA035: End-Of-Life Plans -A Roadmap for Loved-Ones To Carry On

Summary:

When someone passes away, their loved ones most often go on a scavenger hunt to pull together the pieces of the deceased life to form a proper legacy, to resolve all matters of the estate, and to put all affairs at rest and at peace. We have a sense of duty to make the burdens of our passing as easy as can be on those we leave behind. And End-Of-Life (EOL) planning is very important in relieving these kinds of burdens. Lee speaks with Jonathan Braddock, who authored a book on the subject with a catchy title – “Click here when I die”. Jon also runs a website that gives individuals an avenue to create and manage EOL planning. This conversation opens the mind on how we can continue to love our loved ones after our demise.

IGA034: Re-creating Senior Living With Technology Innovations

Summary:

We now live in a world where technology has become essential in the management of our lives. Despite the negative effects, technology has brought so many new capabilities and benefits. However, we can see pitifully few of these benefits when it comes to Senior living and senior care. Whether we are talking about independent living communities, assisted living facilities, traditional nursing homes, or memory care units, the tools, and solutions that could be used to further the convenience and capability of older citizens have remained essentially untapped. The senior living options show little evidence of the technological advances that surround us in our normal environments. Lee discusses this situation with Lisa Cini who has been working hard for more than 20 years to study how technology improve the lives of our parents and grandparents (and ourselves). Lisa has authored two books on the topic and provides excellent food for thought in this intriguing conversation.
